Mogens Koch Wingback Chairs and Ottomans
Pair of Mogens Koch Wingback Chairs and Ottomans. Leather buttons and cushions.
Mogens Koch for K. Ivan Schlechter, 'fireside' wingback lounge chair and ottoman, model MK50, mahogany, leather, Denmark, design 1936, production 1964-1979. Mogens Koch's wingback chair was inspired by Kaare Klint's furniture design, which in turn was inspired by English furniture tradition. The elegant and comfortable armchair is executed in mahogany and camel leather and is designed with high attention to detail, as seen in the forms of the back and armrests. The solid frame and leather cushions provide excellent comfort. This wingback chair is accompanied by its matching ottoman. The seat-cushion is foldable, which can turn this chair and ottoman into a chaise longue. This armchair is a perfect combination of functionality and aesthetics, a true Scandinavian Classic. This model was presented during The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition at the Designmuseum of Denmark in 1936. Mogens Koch (1898-1993) was a Danish architect, furniture-designer, teacher and typographer. Koch studied under Kaare Klint and always challenged the complexity of materials and designs. He is known for his functional, comfortable yet highly aesthetic designs. Please note that this item is in good, used condition. The leather shows patina and signs of age and use.
